A lovely, if long-winded retelling of Beauty and the Beast. Actually, I'd describe it as a fantasy reimagining of Jane Eyre as well: a heroine escaping great loss and cruelty finds refuge in the eerie house of a tormented man, where not all is as it seems. The love story is both believable and sweet and the plot has just enough intrigue and creepy/cool spectral monks! Ghost armies! Malevolent mirrors! details to keep you invested despite some slow going in the last third of the story.
