I thought it had a great setting and plot but fell apart just when everything should have fallen into place. The main character is a 93 year old man telling his story through flashbacks and midway through the book, the young main character starts talking in the older main character's voice. It gave the jarring sensation of the grandpa on The Simpsons being portrayed by a 20 year old. Other than the main character as an old man and a few other exceptions, a lot of the characters were disappointingly flat. This might actually work better as a movie. Full disclosure: Rosie the elephant earned at least one of the stars in my rating.
