I love that this focuses on the wonderful complexity of adolescent female friendship. Sure, at that age boys and crushes can seem all-encompassing but to most girls crush concerns are just one of the many things they are dealing with daily. There is just usually SO much more going on--school, extracurricular activities, finding out talents and passions, figuring out dreams. While boys and crushes may be memorable, I think nothing really comes close to influencing a high school experience quite like the impact of a girl's relationship--friendship and rivalry--with her female peers. Both Kathryn and Brooke are beautifully realistic. Neither are perfect and both do some pretty unforgivable things. I love that I couldn't decide who I wanted to win--even at the end.
