The Native Star - M.K. Hobson Branching out finally paid off, you guys! Going out on a limb finally didn't lead to it breaking under the weight of my own incredulity and walloping me with a reader's regret concussion. When I'm venturing out of my reading comfort zone, I think the Muppet Babies sum it up best: I like adventure, I like romance, I love great jokes...(um, Animal dance?) This book was like the Family Guy "Ooh a piece of candy!" meme in novel format. And let me tell you, the candy came in a variety of awesome flavors such as: "plucky and resourceful heroine", "mutant woodland creatures", "wild, wild west", "love spells gone awry", "zombies!", "spiritual possessions", "actual scary villain" and "OMG! Don't pick up that glowy thing!" As you can see, I thought this book was just plain fun. Sure, towards the end there were times when I repeated "the huh now?" more often than I would like, the book ran a little long and there were some sections (small sections) that I'm pointedly ignoring in my rating but WHATEVER. I do what I want! 4 stars.
